I've found it turbulent to motivate my students on to harder material. They pick up quickly what "difficult music" looks like. When picking a song, they know how to visually avoid difficult rhythms and will lean towards anything that shows the RH (right hand) and LH (left hand) playing seperately. So a few months ago I decided to start bracing my students in a positive way by calling their new material spicy. It somehow conveyed everything that I wanted to communicate to my student without
